Anchoring Procedures

The Course

This course emphasizes that deck officers should know the maximum environmental envelope the anchoring equipment can hold. Navigating officer should be aware of recommended Company anchoring procedures considering good seamanship practice. Also, they should be able to implement routine inspections and maintenance of essential component equipment.
This course is practical as well as theoretical and consists of exercises performed on a ship handling simulator. Classroom lectures, to provide the necessary theoretical background for the exercises, are illustrated either by including them as part of an exercise or by a separate simulator demonstration.


The Facility

The training institute has a 180-Degree visualization bridge with a full range of bridge equipment that can simulate some of the major dense traffic areas of the world. The simulator is equipped with different ship models that closely resemble the behavioural characteristics of ships at sea in various weather conditions.


Aim

On successful completion of the course, the trainees will have sufficient knowledge, understanding to undertake task, duties and responsibilities with respect to anchoring operation onboard. Main aim is to familiarize the Navigating officers onboard with correct Anchoring procedure as recommended by company SMS and taking into consideration good seamanship practice. They will also have good understanding on maintenance of windlass and anchoring equipment.

Masters, Chief Mates and 2nd Mate (on promotion holding Chief mate CoC)

1 Day, including theoretical and practical simulator sessions.
