Ship Maneuvering Simulator and Bridge Team Work Course (DGS Approved)

The Course

The ship handling / manoeuvring simulator and bridge teamwork course is designed to enhance the skill and knowledge about ship handling and efficient management of the bridge team. It consists of theoretical lessons supplemented by computer-based training and ship handling simulator exercises. The course is based on the IMO Model Course 1.22 and is approved by D G Shipping, Govt. of India.


The Facility

The training institute has a 180-Degree visualization bridge with a full range of bridge equipment that can simulate some of the major dense traffic areas of the world. The simulator is equipped with different ship models that closely resemble the behavioural characteristics of ships at sea in various weather conditions.


Aim

To reduce the possibility of accidents that may lead to loss of life, damage to property or environment by enhancing navigational skills of navigating officers. Develop and enhance officer's (Masters and Chief Officers) understanding of how to handle a vessel in restricted waters and to use to available technical and human resources effectively.


Target Group

Chief Mate (F.G.) Certificate of Competency or Mate (H.T.) Certificate of Competency and sea-service of at least 18 months as a certified watch keeping officer.


Duration

5 working days: A total of 35 hours of lectures, including practical simulator training and assessment.
