    General Purpose (GP) Ratings- – Internal Notice

    Dear Candidates,
    Elegant Marine Services, Mumbai, on behalf of Messers Fleet Management Limited (Fleet), invites applications for the six-month General Purpose (G P) Ratings course at the International Maritime Institute (IMI), Greater Noida.

    The course will commence on Tuesday, 1 July 2025. Interested candidates must register their interest by Friday, 20 June

    Candidates seeking admission in the course must fulfil the qualification criteria below.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Minimum Educational Qualification:

    • Passed 10th Standard, or 12th Std and/or are graduates.
    • Not more than two years difference in the year of passing 10th and 12th exams respectively.
    • Age Limit: Between 17.5 and 25 years on the date of commencement of the course.
    • Minimum Mathematics & Science marks in 10th Standard: 50%
    • Physics-Chemistry-Maths (PCM) marks in 12th Std: 50% (improvement exam results will not be considered)
    • Minimum English score in 10th Std or 12th Std: 50% (improvement exam results will not be considered)
    • Candidates who have appeared for their 10th or 12th standard board exams via an Open Board, the NIOS board, or through distance learning are not eligible to apply.


    Communication Skills

    Candidates seeking admission must have basic spoken and written English proficiency, verifiable through tests such as the Marline English Test or ones prescribed by the Directorate General (DG) of Shipping.

    Physical Criteria

    • Height: Minimum 157 centimetres
    • BMI: not more than 25
    • Speech and hearing ability to be within normal range
    • Eyesight 6/6 without aid and no colour blindness.


    Selection Process

    The prospective candidates must pass an Online Test and Interview.


    Additional Preferences

    1. Education/Academic Standards: Preference will be given to candidates who are Class 12 pass outs and/or are graduates over candidates who are just class 10 pass outs.
    2. 1b. Merit-based preferences award to Class 10 pass outs (Those candidates with good marks).
      1c. Consideration to be given to a candidate’s overall personality and family background.

    3. Preference will be given to students who have completed Industrial Training Institute (ITI) technical courses/ Diploma / Degree. 

      2b. Candidates with Marine workshop or Shipyard experience, or Riding Team experience are highly preferred.

    4. Candidates registering for the GP Ratings course must complete payment of full course fees before the commencement of the course.


    Promotion Path

    Promotion to RPFW & Engine Fitter:

    Candidates who have completed the GP ratings course and possess a technical background – or those aspiring to become Fitters—are required to undergo specialized Fitter training sessions.

    Following this, they must gain hands-on experience by working in marine workshops, shipyards, or as part of a Riding Team.

    Before joining our vessels as RPFW, candidates will be placed alongside experienced RPFWs to receive proper guidance and mentorship. To qualify for promotion to POEN within 4–5 contracts, candidates must complete all required assignments as outlined in the POEN TAR book.
