The Course

The Officers and Ratings Pre-departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) is designed to familiarize the Officers and Ratings about the vessel that has been assigned, to also bring them up to date with The latest company policies and procedures. The PDOS involves Online CBT based training, and interaction with the faculty. For Ratings it's a Full Day Class room course.


The Facility

The training institute has spacious classroom with modern teaching aids to facilitate comfortable learning.

The Trainers are all well qualified in their respective subjects. The course combines theoretical and practical training.


Aim

Those who successfully complete this course should be able to demonstrate competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of table A -VI/6-2 of STCW code as amended in 2010.


Target Group

All trainees passing out from Pre-Sea Institutes and all shipboard staff who have not done Ship Security officer Course.


Duration

2 working days.


Course Outline

  1. Knowledge of current security threats and patterns;
  2. Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices; recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security.
  3. Techniques used to circumvent security measures;
  4. Crowd management and control techniques.
  5. Security related communications.
  6. Knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans
  7. Operation of security equipment and systems;
  8. Testing, calibration and at-sea maintenance of security equipment and systems.
  9. Inspection, control, and monitoring techniques; and
  10. Method of physical searches of persons, personal effects, baggage, cargo, and ship stores.
