Command Orientation Training Course

The Course

This program was originally intended to ensure that all FML serving masters, newly joining masters and chief officers on promotion are made well conversant with Fleet's voluntarily accepted "Enhanced Compliance Program" and it's Safety Management System. The management decided to continue the same after the end of the ECP.

The Facility

The training institute shall provide an adequately equipped classroom with adequate audio visual aids as well good seating arrangement to allow for liberal interaction between and amongst faculty and candidates.

The Faculty

The faculty will include Master Mariners with adequate experience on foreign going vessels as well as with good familiarity with the company's procedures, policies and practices.


To ensure that the candidate are suitably familiar with the company's procedures, policies and practices.

To also include a healthy interaction whereby suggestions for improvement and feedback can be shared on a common platform.

Target Group

FML Serving Masters, newly joining Masters and Chief Officers due for promotion (As Part of their Command Orientation Programme)


1 working day with upto 8 hours of training and interaction.

Batch Size

Maximum Batch Size which can be accommodated is 8 candidates

Course Outline

  1. Familiarity to Company's Navigational procedures including but not limited to Passage planning document, (Nav. 1), Bridge Check Lists - BCL and Bridge Familiarization - 12C.
  2. Master Pilot Exchange
  3. Interaction w.r.t company's SMS policies
  4. Assessment of familiarity W.r.t Company's SMS policy.
  5. Feedback, suggestion for improvement and interaction on all of the above.
