Enhanced Navigation Training - Course Framework


This program is intended to:

  1. Provide all deck officers - Masters & Chief Officers - 6hours, Second Officers and Third Officers - 18 hours of classroom training in Fleet's Bridge Procedures Manual / Enhanced Navigation Training as it pertains to navigation, bridge team management and job responsibilities prior to the deck officer assuming any duties aboard a Fleet vessel.
  2. This class room training shall review Fleet's BPM relevant to deck officers including:
    1. General training on the use of electronic chart systems and Fleet's navigation standards (and this training will be supplemented with type - specific training on electronic navigation); Admiralty Digital Publication, e-NP
    2. Principles of voyage planning;
    3. Bridge team management
    4. The importance of the master-pilot exchange
    5. Principles of communication
    6. Challenge & Response
    7. e-mariner
    8. M. R. M
    9. Navigation Safety Campaign- master pilot relationship
    10. The non-delegable nature of the responsibility of deck officers for safe navigation should be emphasized in this training.

Learning Objective

Atrainee upon successful completion of the program should be familiar with Fleet's Bridge Procedure Manual as it pertains to bridge team management, navigation, voyage planning, the Master-Pilot exchange, principles of communication and his job responsibilities. He should be familiar with the general use of electronic chart systems, aware of their major features and be able to appreciate how their correct usage enhances the safety of navigation.

Target Group

All deck officers (Masters, Chief Officers, Second Officers and Third Officers) of FML managed vessels.

Student Entry Standards (Criteria)

This program is open to and intended for all deck officers joining ships where Fleet Management Limited is the Manager listed in the Documents of Compliance.

Class Size limitations (Theory)

About 50 square meter. Bearing in mind the aims and objectives of the course, the maximum number of trainees will be 24 per course.

2 Master Mariners with foreign going certification, familiar with company's SMS who have undergone TOTA.

Description of the Facilities

The program will be conducted in a classroom in clean, well-lit environment conducive to effective learning. There will be 6 Tables with 24 chairs, trainees in cluster seating arrangement.
